West Coast Swing (WCS) is a partner dance with roots in Lindy Hop. It is characterized by a distinctive elastic look that results from its basic extension-compression technique of partner connection, and is danced primarily in a slotted area on the dance floor. The dance allows for both partners to improvise steps while dancing together, putting West Coast Swing in a short list of dances that put a premium on improvisation. Below is an example of the dance:
We are located at the Carmel Youth Center at 4th and Torres in Carmel-by-the-Sea (near the police station.) We offer an Open Intermediate Class and a Beginner Class. The social dance party goes from 8-10 PM. Below is our weekly, Thursday night schedule:
• 6:30 PM - Open Class $10 per person. Jen and Rene teach a west coast swing pattern. Open to dancers of all levels.
• 7:15 PM - Beginner Class $10 per person. Jen and Rene teach the basics of West Coast swing. For those with no dance experience or those wanting to re-take this fundamentals class.
• 8:00 PM - Social Dance Party. Free with paid entry into either the Open or Beginner class. If you only want to dance, $5 gets you in for social dancing.
